Conclusion i think its interesting how people act on their beliefs, and so many customs are like working a puzzle.
I feel when the elders spoke to me on a one 2 one basis the term " brother" was used not in a respectful way but a controlling way. Had i asked to be addressed by my Christian name i am sure the reply would be that is not how the society wants us to address you.
i have recently been having a feeling of guilt for having escaped the w.t while so many friends and family remain trapped.. has anyone else ever had similar feelings?.
As an additionsl thought i could have felt guilt if i had succeeded bringing any in to the Organisation. I left with out explaining Why to my study who attended meetings. I am lucky we are still friends and he worked things out for himself.
i don't recall self depracation or witty remarks within the witnesses.
everything was always so heavy.
i suspect that a person with wit, despecially dry wit, would find themselve in trouble.
on the door with an elder talking with a house holder. The householder said football was his religon, which explained him wearing our local teams football shirt and having the club flag flying from the window. So. I replied " You do realise that the club manager is a very religouse man"
He laughed and said " bullshit" or some such profunity. and i said " well i can tell you for a fact his a seventh day adventist and his converted half the team to his religon" householder laughing " absolute bullshit" my reply " then tell me why the team never perform on saturday" householder laughs and we leave with a bit of dignity.. After we left the door i was told by the elder how unimpressed he was by my presentation. I thought i had created a good return call.
question: how does the leadership of jehovah's witnesses instruct its members to prepare for the eventual elder care of its members?.
answer: it pretends it will never happen!.
is this responsible leadership or some kind of cognitive dissonant malfeasance?.
they instruct its members to comfort the old with words like these.-
" such happiness has to be a life time spent serving Jehover"
" But i have nothing, i am nothing and now i can no longer walk,no brother or sister has visited me in weeks"

Ok maybe i am cynical but i believe the society would have failed in its purpose if it simply gets alife time of free labour,to really succeed it needs your home. And in my congregation how many of the elderly left homes to the society. And the elders that helped with the paperwork.
I marvel how easily the elders didthe societies will ....pathetic, cunning and dangerouse people.

Snareandracket i havnt seen the film, but i agree with your point. I always, always felt uncomftable with the term Brother or Sister. For me it impled we do not exist through ourself alone but through the W.T that shapes us, and influences our thinking.
Furthermore i remember how in book study the conductor used to call us by our christian names. I then remember an elder saying how he found it difficult to change to the term brother or sister, but the society had definately directed this change. I believe it was.-
A. inforced to take our individuality away
B So elders could assert control easier.eg " Michael can we see you for a chat" is much more friendly than" Brother ....... can we see you for a chat" thus takes away feelings of personal friendship.

Apart fro Dr Who i believe the entire thread is American T.V shoes. Quite an achievement when most were shown in England and we only had 3 channels.
In the late 60s Frank Price head of Universal became aware that women controlled the t.v switch and hence my beloved westerns became mosr romantic and less gunfights.
English shows i remember were huffungpuffing puff and catweasle, z cars the Sweeney, some mothers do have them, Dads Army, Benny Hill, Steptoe and Son, the likely lads ect ect....Did these shows not get shown in the states? I know you had your own version of Steptoe and Son.
one of the first things that shocked me when learning the truth about the truth was how the organisation uses tricks and deception to fool their own membership.
i guess we all have our own favourite examples, like the quotes in the publications that make outside sources look like they oppose the trinity/support the nwt/disprove evolution, when in context the intent of the original source is quite different.
or the grossly exaggerated experiences delivered at conventions: if we happen to know the person or were present at the events described we know it's often garbage what they say on stage, more closely resembling a desired script emanating from headquarters than anything that actually happened to real witnesses in the circuit or district.
The biggest W.T trick in my opinion is very deceptive they call it "love" and it is. The deception is its a conditional love and thats the trick.

thanks Xanthippe but i planned my escape well. I have a new project i am working on with a non witness by internet.
The projet is " one six and sixty- nine" and the manuscript is at a very advanced stage. Its a book filled with wisdom smiles and laughter and its a little naughty as well. What better way to leave the W.T with out depression.
Yes i have decided the thoughts we have create the universe we live in. So truth is what ever one chooses to believe. My universe my truth is to empty my mind of my J.W teachings and never order one beer when i can order two.
